Sounds like Type 1 diabetics are starting to feel the pinch of yet another pressure on the supply of insulin.
The insulin supply shortages come as diabetes patients increasingly turn to drugs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro, part of a new category of weight loss medication called glucagon-like peptide 1, or GLP-1 drugs, which are approved to treat Type 2 diabetes.
Drug companies have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in factory production to keep pace with the voracious demand from American consumers who want these drugs for diabetes, weight loss and other conditions.
But..... patients reliant on insulin fear drug companies' attention to the profitable blockbuster meds comes at the expense of a life-sustaining drug that's been around for more than a century. People who must take insulin to live said shortages of the medication have forced them to make extreme decisions.
There are most definitely many, many people benefitting from the GLP-1 meds as they work to shed body mass and strive for a healthier life/lifestyle. And more power to them (although I still have concerns about long-term impacts that might result in weird health/body things happening down the road).
But, these drug manufacturers cannot be allowed to drop the low-margin drugs for the high-margin drugs and leave those who need insulin to survive scrambling for supply. Elevating money/profit over health/life is NEVER an acceptable solution.

P.S.
Why is this a thing? Are people being issued more supply than what they need? Or, are people not taking meds as directed and being left with extra at month-end?
Both of those situations are a problem.
