New Words 31

Came across some more "new" words & phrases.

This is set #31 of these that I've posted here on MattChat.

FRIENDLY DISCLAIMER:
As with previous posts, these are not necessarily "brand new"...... just new to me:  words that I've come across recently which I do not recall hearing before.

(I sure hope that one of the words below wasn't included on an earlier "New Words" post...... 'cause that forgetfulness would make me look just a tad bit OLD)

morganite: pink to orange-pink gemstone in the beryl family, along with aquamarine and emerald

uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP): surgery to open the upper airways by taking out extra tissue in the throat

somatogravic illusion (SGI): in flying, a type of spatial disorientation due to acceleration or deceleration

hydrilla (AKA waterthyme): a submerged, invasive aquatic plant native to Africa and Southeast Asia

cryoseism (AKA frostquake): a natural phenomenon that occurs when saturated ground freezes rapidly, causing the ground to shake and produce earthquake-like noises

branhamology (AKA branhamism): teachings of the American faith-healer & "prophet” William M. Branham (1909–1965)

nootkatone: active ingredient that can be used for developing insect repellents and insecticides

petechiae: tiny round brown-purple spots due to bleeding under the skin; may be in a small area due to minor trauma or widespread due to blood-clotting disorder

cold storage (AKA cold wallet): offline storage that keeps cryptocurrency keys from being stolen from your internet-connected wallet

satoshi (SATs): smallest unit of the bitcoin cryptocurrency;  named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin

And there you have them...... 10 words to add to your everyday vocabulary so you can impress those with whom you converse.
🙂

Stay tuned for the next 10.

Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
