Have you ever thought about your life's purpose?
How would you react if someone asked you for your personal purpose statement (PPS)?
Ever thought about that?
One site describes a PPS like this:
A personal purpose statement highlights what drives you, your goals, and what you truly care about. It covers not only where you want to go but also why you want to go there and the principles you’ll honor along the way.
I was challenged to put one together for myself. I realized it was really going to take some thought. Especially to do it right -- and make it meaningful.
After a whole lot of thought -- and numerous revisions after revisions after revisions -- this is what I came up with:
For now, that sums up how I feel about my life's purpose, as things currently stand at age 50. I don't see it changing much between now and my death date, as these 5 things are so very important to me -- and always will be:
- dedication (especially to family & friends)
- service (OTHERS FIRST!)
- gratitude (every. single. day.)
- challenge (keep that brain active)
- encouragement (BUILD OTHERS UP!)
Have you written one? If not, give it a try. For me, it was a fun & rewarding experience. And gives me a great "north star" as I march thru my 50s.
Grace & Peace & Love to you all -
Matt
