New Words #8

It's been quite some time since I've made a "new words" post here on MattChat.  I am pretty sure this is the 8th one since early 2020.

These are not necessarily "new words", just ones that I've come across recently which I had never heard before.



ear candling:

An alternative medicine practice which consists of lighting a hollow candle and sticking it in a person’s ear, the alleged benefit of which is improved general well-being


sperm candle:

candle made of spermaceti (an oily/waxy substance found in the head cavities of the sperm whale)


Iranistan:

A Moorish Revival mansion in Bridgeport, Connecticut commissioned by P.T. Barnum in 1848


bacchanalia:

A riotous, boisterous, or drunken festivity


amygdala (REPEATING THIS ONE WITH NEW SPELLING):

a structure in the brain that controls emotions, such as fear, sadness, and aggression, and prepares a response to danger


vajacial:

A personal care beauty treatment which involves cleansing and moisturizing of the vagina and bikini area 


ghost guns:

a gun that lacks a serial number by which it can be identified and that is typically assembled by the user (as from purchased or homemade components)


theodicy:

vindicating the divine attributes of God, particularly holiness and justice, while acknowledging the true existence of physical and moral evil
